WILLIAMSPORT - Warm yourself up with some serious laughter as the Community Theatre League in Williamsport presents "Happy Birthday," an uproariously funny comedy by Marc Camoletti. The show is at 7:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, and Feb. 2 through 4. A 2 p.m. matinee is offered Sunday, Feb. 5.
Bernard (played by Sean Engemann) has foolishly asked his mistress, Brigit (Leanne Brown), to his home on her birthday despite the fact his wife Jacqueline (Jenn Welch) is present. He also has invited his oldest friend, Robert (Beau Schemery) and asks him to pretend Brigit is his mistress. Robert refuses because he is having an affair with Jacqueline. Bernard cunningly involves him anyway, and the slamming doors, cover-ups and comedy begin. Toss in a temporary maid, also named Brigit (played by Amanda Abright), whom Robert mistakes for Bernard's girlfriend, and frantic complications ensue. Identities, plots and counter-plots, even bedrooms are exchanged with ever-increasing confusion until an unexpected ending makes everyone happy.
"Happy Birthday" is a long-running success in London.
Engemann and Schemery have teamed up once before, in CTL's successful comedy, "Leading Ladies" in 2009. The two "Brigits," Brown and Abright, have appeared together in last season's "Dearly Departed." Newcomer Jenn Welch is no stranger to the stage, having appeared in productions at the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble and East Stroudsburg University.
CTL's production is directed by Kay Hawkes.
