Frances E. Whitman

Frances Elizabeth Moore (Barrett) "Betty" Whitman, 87, entered into rest Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Willard D. Whitman.

Born in Cedar Springs on Dec. 8, 1924, Frances was the daughter of the late George and Eliza (Moore) Barrett.

She was a seamstress supervisor at Bobbie Brooks in Lock Haven for 16 years before working at Super Shoes in York for 10 years. Betty was a member of the International Garment Workers Union, First Church of Christ, Lock Haven, and AARP.

Mrs. Whitman is survived by five children, Gary D. Whitman and his wife Cathy of High Point, N.C., Donald E. Whitman and his wife Joanne, Keith R. Whitman and his wife Teresa, Stephen M. Whitman and his wife Jayne, all of York, and Cynthia S. Johnstonbaugh and her husband John of Spring Grove.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Troy and his wife Jenny, Sloan and her husband Drew of North Carolina, Donald II and his wife Kelle of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Josh and his wife Becky of Great Falls, Mont., Nick, Ryan, and Megan Benson of York.

She is also survived by her great grandchildren Maggie, Ella, McCall, Whitman, Alex, Kyle, Ryan, Maliyah, and Sean; one sister, Sue Coccia, and one brother, William Barrett.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York.

The graveside service will be at noon Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Clinton County.
