LOCK HAVEN - It is that time of year again.
Time when students, faculty, staff, parents and supporters nominate Keystone Central School District's "outstanding educator."
However, only until 5 p.m. this Friday will nominations be accepted.
The district, in partnership with the Keystone Central Foundation, is accepting nominations for the annual LaRue Hinchliffe Outstanding Educator Award to be presented at a school board meeting in June.
Thanks to a bequest to the foundation by the late Ms. Hinchliffe, a long-time teacher, counselor and mentor at the former Bald Eagle-Nittany High School, the recipient is given a monetary award to be used to enhance the tools of teaching in his or her classroom.
"The importance of the award lies in the criteria established for its nominees. It highlights those that have been more than just a teacher, but someone who has been dedicated to the profession, someone who has become a part of the school community and has worked to strengthen the school while leaving a legacy for others to follow," said Terry Murty, Keystone's curriculum director and a foundation board member.
The award will go to someone who:
- Is a KCSD educator nominated by a parent, student or faculty member.
- Is dedicated and knowledgeable.
- Inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn.
- Has the respect and admiration of colleagues, students and parents.
- Is active in the community, as well as in the school.
- Demonstrates leadership skills.
- Is highly motivated and continually learning himself or herself.
Parents and/or students are encouraged to nominate their favorite teacher.
Nominations may be submitted to the Keystone administration office by way of Joellen Phillips via an email to jphillips@kcsd. k12.paus, or by simply calling the administration office at 570-893-4900 and giving the name to Joellen.
The award winner is chosen by a committee consisting of the superintendent of schools, director of curriculum and district program leaders.
