Urge labeling of gmos in foods

March 28, 2012
By DEB LIQUORI - Beech Creek , The Express

Bee colony collapse disorder, frog mutations, sheep being bred to produce live malaria vaccinations in their milk, seeds being manipulated with viruses, bacteriums, antibiotics and pesticides.

The emergence of new super weeds that now call for more pesticides. Certain cancers on the rise and the finding of pesticides in the blood of pregnant women and their fetuses.

Increases in stomach disorders, autism and autoimmune diseases.

Oh, not to mention the presence of pesticides in our soils and waters. Sweet corn being manipulated with Agent Orange soon to be sold in Wal-Mart.

Consumers beware!

We all have an obligation to our families, friends and neighbors to stand up and voice our right to know what we are eating. Call Wal-Mart, call your local grocers and call your elected officials and urge labeling of gmos now.

Gmos are genetically modified organisms. No further testing is required as long as they are similar to non-gmos.

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine does not think gmos are safe to eat and have asked physicians to advise their patients to avoid gmos foods.

Before the FDA allowed gmos into food without requiring the labeling of them, their own scientists had warned that gmos foods can cause unpredictable side effects These side effects include new diseases, allergies, toxins and nutritional problems.

A plant scientist, Don Hubner, who worked for much of his career at Purdue University, sent a letter to the USDA warning of a new disease he had discovered in Monsanto's Roundup Ready corn and soybeans.

He has also sent an additional warning letter of the damage Monanto's herbicide glyphosate (the main ingredient in Roundup) is doing to plants and the animals that eat them.

Why do 15 states in our country have laws prohibiting laws for labeling of gmos? Why are other states lobbying to get labeling of gmos?

Why are most safety studies done by biotech companies? Why is President Obama not calling for labeling of gmos.

When he was running for office, he said labeling of gmos would be a priority for him.

Why have 55 members of Congress sent a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg to require labeling of gmos?

Because enough research has not been done and because of all the problems known to occur in animal studies, labeling should be required so we can at least avoid these gmos foods.

Research this on your own and make up your own mind, but please do so for your health and for your families.

When our government agencies seem to be ignoring the warnings and alerts from scientists and promoting these gmos foods anyway, it is time to take them to task and demand labeling now.
