Flag shirt inappropriate

April 4, 2012
By THOMAS LIVINGSTON - Mill Hall

First, I would like to thank the Banfill Family for all the flag donations to local civic organizations and schools.

The Clinton County area needs more patriotic individuals like the Banfills.

However, I do take exception to the picture in The Express on March 20 showing Mr. Banfill wearing a shirt that is a replica of the American Flag.

Federal Regulation, Flag Code Section 3 states, "A flag is anything by which the average person seeing the same without deliberation may believe the same to represent the flag."

I feel displaying this type of behavior to elementary children is a very disrespectful. Young people of this age are looking for direction. In speaking with several of my fellow veteran friends, their feelings were the same as mine.

Again, I feel the attire was inappropriate.
