The Express highlights people, groups and activities worthy of applause, each Saturday morning.
APPLAUSE to the Mackeyville United Methodist Church for coming to the rescue of a Christian man from Montana whose truck gave out on him in Wilkes-Barre. After making several calls to area churches, with no response, he called Mackeyville and was well received. During the service money was raised to buy him a bus ride back to Montana with enough for food. This little country church knew a Christian when they saw him. He returned a phone call to thank everyone for the help and even was able to find a job. He said he never worried because he knew God would provide.

Volunteers gathered along Young Woman's Creek Road on April 1 to do something good for the community. With support from Ray Long and organizer Cindy Probst, volunteers Pat Bibey, Kevin Probst, Ryan Prebble, Cassidy Cowfer, Chuck Probst Sr. and Chuck Probst Jr. spent the morning picking up trash along the road from North Bend to Bull Run Bridge. They worked dilligently from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. making the road safer and more beautiful for all who use it. The Chapman Township Board of Supervisors want to THANK everyone who came out to support the community roadside clean-up event. Volunteers led by Cindy Probst have been doing this roadside clean-up annually for the past 12 years now and always do a wonderful job. This year they collected an entire truckload of trash to be taken to the landfill. It's amazing what just a small group of dedicated people can accomplish in a couple hours. Thank you all for coming out on such a beautiful Sunday morning and working so hard to make North Bend beautiful!
The Lock Haven Area Jaycees would like to thank the approximately 140 seniors who attended our Annual Senior Easter Dinner on Palm Sunday. And, we especially would like to thank our special guests for the event: Mike Romanesky, Pennsylvania State Jaycee Individual Development Vice President Katy Lemmer of the York Jaycees and State President Carla Kramer of the Hamburg Jaycees. Mike was the organizer of the special "Five Hours of Rock" benefit for the Lock Haven chapter, which was undergoing financial troubles, mostly due to a rainy Labor Day weekend for the annual boat regatta. Mike's words were truly inspirational, not only for the Jaycees, but for the community as a whole. Thank you, Mike, for your kind words. Thanks also to Weis Market of Lock Haven and the Lock Haven Women of the Moose for donating desserts.
We would also like to thank the area businesses and individuals who stepped up to the plate yet again and donated to today's 42nd Annual Lock Haven Area Jaycees Radio Auction, starting at 9 a.m. today on AM 1230, WBPZ, and online at www.wsqvradio.com. During these continued trying economic times, the area has donated well more than $4,000 worth of items to benefit the Jaycees! A listing of the items can be found at www.lockhavenjaycees.com and at www.facebook/lockhavenareajaycees.
We cannot truly express the gratitude we continue to feel from the community, and the two words, "thank you," do not seem sufficient. This is what makes Clinton County truly a special place to live.
