Applause!! Applause!!

April 28, 2012
The Express

The Express highlights people, groups and activities worthy of applause, each Saturday morning.

The Kiwanis Club of Bald Eagle and Nittany Valleys would like to offer a large round of APPLAUSE to the communities of Lamar and Beech Creek. The residents of both communities were very generous in their donations of canned food items and paper products for the Lock Haven Salvation Army food bank. This was the first community project for the Kiwanis Club of Bald Eagle and Nittany Valleys and we greatly appreciate everyone's generosity to make it a great success!!

On behalf of the Central Mountain High School Life Skills students, I would like to take this opportunity to THANK the following for the time and effort that you routinely put into organizing the performance held at Lock Haven University's Kent Fest. Applause goes out to everyone who took part in coordinating and assisting with this performance. Beyond a shadow of a doubt this year's Kent's Fest was the best one yet. From the beautiful props made in Ashley Rippey's art classes, choreography practiced in Katie Madden's gym classes, singing in Scott Fraiser's music class to the American flags donated from Terry Banfill. Thanks goes out to assistants Laura Eisenhower, Dee Crissman, Virginia Bauman and Terri Probst for helping the students and teachers prepare for their performance. It was obvious to all who attended that everyone put great time and effort into making this performance a big success. This success would not have been possible without each of you.

- Tracie Bowes, Mill Hall

I would like to send a huge APPLAUSE to Crows Deli, The Country Heart, Marie Selfe and Woodward Township. Thank you for your support of The Janet Weis/Children's Miracle Network Easter Bunny Fundraiser. With your help we raised enough money to help bring smiles to the faces of the sickest children. I must say that the people of Clinton County have huge hearts! We are holding another fundraiser on May 26 at the Mill Hall Community Park with visits from Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Hello Kitty, and Batman and Batgirl, along with other superheroes. Details will be advertised soon. No fundraiser would ever be a success without the help of the Lock Haven Express and our local radio station, so I'd like to send a big thank you to those folks too!

- Sharon Hanley (aka Mrs. Bunny)

The Salvation Army youth group would like to THANK Bill MacIntyre Chevrolet for sponsoring a car wash fundraiser recently. The money raised will go towards the Corp's self-denial goal for the year. The youth group would also like to thank Pizza Hut of Mill Hall, who also sponsored a fundraiser. The money for this will also go toward the self-denial goal. Again, a huge thank you to both of the businesses. We would also like to thank the members of the community that helped us to raise money during both of these fundraisers!

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and THANKS to the staff at Central Mountain Physical Therapy for their excellent care following my Feb. 17 knee surgery. Also, I would like to thank my family, friends and neighbors for their support during my recovery, especially the Butch Rooney family. The visits, cards, meals, transportation to and from therapy and doctor visits, and especially everyone's concern, have meant so much to me at this time. I would also like to thank my nurse Patty, my sons and their friends, my daughter-in-law and most importantly, my mother Peggy Wagner, who I couldn't have made it these past 10 weeks without. I feel so blessed to have so many people who care about me. Thank you again.

- Steve Phillips

I had the opportunity to participate in Kent's Fest 2012, sponsored by Lock Haven University. THANK YOU to The Express for covering the event. A special thank you to Dr. Carol Liddick and the students for their hard work to make this event a success. If anyone thinks that Kent's Fest isn't important, please try to attend next year. If these "special" people don't affect you, then your heart must be made of stone. An extra special thank you to the athletic department of Penn State University for allowing Mary Casilio's class to borrow a football helmet. The most difficult job would be the judges because everyone worked very hard and did a great job. Local businesses, lawyers and individuals donated prizes for this event. Thank you for your generous donations. A proud participant,

- Linda Brungard and Makenzey (Shuey) Goldsmith

The Kiwanis Club of Mill Hall THANKS all those who came out to help on Saturday, April 21, at the Mill Hall park. Comcast, as part of "Comcast Cares" annually volunteers to do work in the communities they serve. They partner with a local non-profit organization to do this. We especially want to thank Joe Rocco, director of government and regulatory affairs for Comcast; Phil Gates, on-site supervisor, and Tracey Houser-Myers, on-site manager. Through their efforts, they brought 27 Comcast volunteers to the park. We also want to thank Angela Harding of United Way for bringing the Central Mountain baseball team, Ken McGhee for bringing in the Friends of the Community Pool, and Ed Peiffer, chairman of "Kiwanis One Day" volunteer project. There were over 60 volunteers who worked at the pool and the park to clean up and repair facilities. These people gave up their own time to volunteer to better their community. The Kiwanis Club of Mill Hall thanks all of you for what you do.

- Bob Jackman

THANK YOU, Thank you!!! Comcast Community Caring Day and The Mill Hall Kiwanis Club came through last Saturday and provided a great contribution to the Community Pool at Mill Hall project. It was a sea of green shirts and busy people doing work early in the morning when most others were probably still sleeping. The Friends of the Community Pool would like to say thank you for your help with some much needed work. We would like to thank the Wayne Township Landfill for donating the mulch we were able to use at the pool. A great big thank you goes out to all the volunteers who showed up on Saturday to help get the pool ready for the upcoming season. It truly was exciting to see so many adults and children donating their time to better our community. A huge round of applause and an even bigger thank you is coming to you from the Friends of the Community Pool at Mill Hall. Thank you for caring and showing it!

THANK YOU to everyone who helped, donated and participated in the spaghetti mission dinner to benefit Kayla Royer. It was a huge success. A special thank you to Judy Yearick for all her coordination skills and to Nancy Wheeler and Connie Bliler for all the delicious desserts.

- Wanda Royer, Mill Hall

Gratitude, appreciation, thankfulness - what else can we say? The Friends of the Community Pool at Mill Hall would like to say without the overwhelming community support our Vera Bradley Bingo Fundraiser would not have been the true success that it most definitely was. The following businesses and people went over and above with their sponsorship and donations and we would like to say you are true friends of the Community Pool. We thank these businesses: APC Printing, CO2 Unique Boutique, The Lock Haven Express, RC Bowman and Sons, The Bus Stops Here, Lakemont Park, Backroad Primitives, Delgrosso's Amusement Park, Tom Evers Plumbing and Heating, Susquehanna Trailways, The Record newspaper, Domino's Pizza, Killinger's Custom Sheet Metal, Dunkin Donuts, Millbrook Playhouse, Community Arts Center, Killinger's Contracting, Woolrich Woolen Mills, State College Spikes, Lock Haven YMCA, UGI Central Penn Gas, No. 1 Nails, Main Cheung Chinese Restaurant, The Red Eye Center, Goodwill Hose Company, Mill Hall Agway, Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, R&M Gas and Oil, Condo's Inc, Garbrick and Shadle Agency LLC, Spook Haven, McGhee Scrap Yard, Miller's Furniture, Lugg and Lugg Attorneys at Law, The Goodwill Hose Company, Don's Garage, Fultz's Auto Body, M&T Bank, Inspirations Floral Studio and Gift Boutique, Dean K. There were many volunteers who showed up on Sunday to help with the event, and without them the event would not have moved along as smoothly as it did. There was a good time had by all and, again, without the help and assistance of everybody involved, we would not have been able to say the event was a success. We, the Friends of the Community Pool, believe this is a testament to the supporters of the Community Pool and provides the proof the community is aware of the need to keep the pool going. A great big round of APPLAUSE goes out to each and every one of you. From the bottom of our hearts we say a great big thank you!!!
