Inmate death

ROCKVIEW - Superintendent Marirosa Lamas has reported the death of an inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview. John Carter, 32, was found unresponsive in his cell by corrections officers and medical staff at approximately 9:45 p.m., April 26. The inmate was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The Pennsylvania State Police have been notified. Carter was serving a life sentence for second degree murder from Allegheny County.

Car hits wall

BEECH CREEK - Joshua M. Confer, 22, of Lock Haven, crashed his 2007 Toyota Tacoma on Back Street in Curtin Township Sunday at 11:20 p.m., Tpr. Nicholas V. Buchheit of the Pennsylvania State Police at Rockview said. Confer was driving south when the vehicle accelerated, lost traction, fish-tailed and traveled off the road, where it crashed into a concrete wall. A passenger, Thomas J. Moyer, 22, of Lock Haven, was taken to Lock Haven Hospital by Beech Creek Emergency Medical Service for treatment of minor injuries.

Criminal mischief

DUNNSTOWN - An attempt was made to break into a parked Toyota Tundra Monday afternoon or evening at 31 Shirk Addition Lane, Woodward Township police said. The front passenger side window was broken, police said. Damage is estimated at $300.

Home damaged

JERSEY SHORE - A Clinton County man has been arrested on charges of allegedly forcing his way into the home of his former girlfriend and stealing her cellphone as she was attempting to call police, according to the state police. Alfred Lincoln Rishel, 37, of 2673 Rauchtown Road, Crawford Township, went to Lacey Ann Fuller and Nathan Laubach's home at 105 Smith Court, Piatt Township, kicked in the front door and grabbed Fuller's cellphone from her hand before fleeing the scene about 11 p.m. on April 6, police allege. An estimated $1,070 damage was done during the break-in, police said. Following his arraignment on April 14 before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman on charges of burglary, felony trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property, stalking, criminal mischief and harassment, Rishel was released on $25,000 bail.

Plea deal reached

JERSEY SHORE - In a plea agreement before District Judge Jerry C. Lepley, James Andrew Miele, 48, of 415 Washington Ave., Jersey Shore, pleaded guilty to a summary harassment charge after county Detective Kenneth L. Mains agreed to withdraw a misdemeanor charge of stalking. The charges stemmed from Miele allegedly harassing a woman between last September and February, court records state. During that time, Miele texted her in excess of 4,000 times after the woman terminated their relationship, Mains said. Miele made arrangements to pay $300 in fines plus court costs ordered by Lepley.

Medication stolen

LINDEN - Ronald Vanemon, 50, of Linden, reported to state police at Montoursville someone stole various items, including medication, from his car while it was parked at Lot 195 Harvest Moon Park, sometime on April 22 or 23, Tpr. Brian M. Evarts said.

Minor injury

DUBOISTOWN - A Jersey Shore woman received minor injuries after a two-car crash on April 26 at 12:31 p.m., Tpr. Brian M. Evarts of state police at Montoursville said. Shandel L. Starr, 21, of Jersey Shore, was traveling west on Cochran Avenue, Armstrong Township, when she struck a car driven by Lesley L. Starr, 46, of Jersey Shore, while it was stopped at the intersection of Route 654, police said. Both were wearing their seatbelts, police said. Shandel Starr received minor injuries and was treated at Williamsport Hospital, police said. She was cited for speeding, police said.

Window damaged

LINDEN - An unknown person entered 191 Palmer Industrial Drive, Woodward Township, Lycoming County, sometime between Saturday and Monday and damaged a window and a door of a truck owned by Brian William Kriger, 27, Tpr. Daniel J. Kozak of state police at Montoursville said. The person then entered a truck owned by Justin Matthew Applegate, 26, and stole approximately $3 in coins, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 368-5700.

Theft from vehicle

BELLEFONTE - An unknown person removed a Panasonic dual-screen DVD player, an Easton 30-inch baseball bat, change and a car keep from the vehicles of an unidentified victim while they were parked in St. Paul Circle, Benner Township, between 4 and 5 a.m. on Saturday, Tpr. Bucheit of state police at Rockview said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 814-355-7545.

Purse stolen

LOCK HAVEN - A purse and contents were stolen from a parked vehicle Tuesday at 719 Woods Ave., city police said.

The loss was estimated at $700, police said.

Sign stolen

LOCK HAVEN - A "No Parking" sign and post were stolen Tuesday from a private lot at 308 Grove St., city police said. Police said it will take $50 to replace the property.

Keys found

LOCK HAVEN - A set of keys were found on the sidewalk at the 700 block of East Water Street Tuesday. The owner can claim the property by identifying it at the Lock Haven Police Department.
