STATE COLLEGE - State College's newest Army Career Center is celebrating Military Appreciation Month with a grand opening celebration from noon to 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Nittany Mall.

The event features a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. and provides the opportunity to talk to local soldiers and learn about new recruiting operations. Area residents are invited to attend the free grand opening event and are encouraged to RSVP by calling 814-238-8216 or emailing 1e7@usarec.army.mil.

Located near Macy's, the 5,651-square-foot Army Career Center offers information about its selection of Army job opportunities to local residents and college students.

"Career opportunities for those interested in serving their country will now be within even closer reach for members of the State College community at the Army Career Center at Nittany Mall," said Lou Kanzleiter, mall general manager. "The addition of the new career center is an innovative alternative to the traditional mall tenant and further highlights Nittany Mall's position as an integral part of the community."

The Army Career Center at Nittany Mall will assist local potential Army candidates to determine interest in service fields such as administrative support, arts and media, combat, computers and technology, construction and engineering, intelligence and combat support, legal and law enforcement, mechanics, medical and emergency and transportation and aviation.

The Army is made up of individuals serving the United States through active duty and the Army Reserve. Those who serve in either component are enlisted soldiers, non-commissioned officers, warrant officers or commissioned officers. More than 675,000 Army soldiers, 488,000 of whom are on active duty, are ready to respond immediately to any mission. The Army Reserve, which can be quickly mobilized when its expertise is needed in times of a nationwide emergency or global conflict, is numbered at 189,000.
