LOCK HAVEN-The Lock Haven University Recreation Management Department held its 6th annual Alumni Lecture Series recently.
This was a two-day event that featured a "meet and greet" with students and faculty, a panel presentation open to the LHU community, a student-guided tour of the LHU campus, classroom presentations, and an organized lunch and dinner held at Bentley and Haywoods on the Green.
This year's program was entitled "Alumni in Lights" and featured four LHU Recreation Management alumni: Sarah Duttera, class of 2004; Meghan Sullivan, class of 2007; Tracy Zupich, class of 2007; and Jared Baker, class of 2011.
The event was planned and implemented by students enrolled in the spring 2012 Recreation Management Program Planning and Design Class and funded by a grant from the LHU Alumni Association. Student committee groups planned all aspects of the program. Attendees of the event included approximately 160 students, faculty from the Recreation Management Department, Dr. Michael Fiorentino Jr., president; Dr. Tammy Rich, director of Alumni Relations; Dr. Mary Rose-Colley, interim dean of the College of Education and Human Services; and Dr. Kim Batty, class instructor.
The alumni who presented at the event found the experience to be enjoyable and were excited to come back to The Haven to share their post graduate and career experiences with current students. This event provided a wonderful and unique partnership with the Recreation Management department, majors, and the LHU Alumni Association.
Students who attended the event commented that "the alumni were very knowledgeable about the field." Others stated that they enjoyed learning more about the field of recreation from the professionals and that the panel discussion helped them better understand what job they want after graduation.
The Recreation Management department is looking forward to continuing this successful partnership with the Alumni Association next year.
