JERSEY SHORE - The Jersey Shore Area School Board voted unanimously to approve a 15-day suspension without pay for district Superintendent Richard Emery at Tuesday night's meeting. The vote came after an executive session.
The suspension began May 22 and will end June 12. The decision by the school board was in response to charges against Emery for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
According to an earlier report, charges came against Emery following a one-car crash the night of April 6 along Route 147 in Northumberland County. Emery failed a series of sobriety tests and his blood alcohol level was 0.211 percent, the report said.
The approved item by the board included a stipulation that if Emery is found guilty of the charges he would be required to speak with all district students about his decision.
Emery also faces three summary offenses. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for today before District Judge Richard P. Cashman.
