A lightning display accompanied the first day of demolition of the former Lock Haven Senior High School and auditorium.
The buildings on West Church Street are being cleared to make way for Lock Haven University's East Campus Science Center, a 53,000-square-foot building that will house classrooms and labs for chemistry, biology, geology and physics including nanotechnology.
Demolition was to start earlier, reported Keith A. Roush, LHU Facilities Department assistant director/project manager, but the old school contained more asbestos than expected and its removal caused a delay.

The $28 million science center could start to rise in two or three months, Roush said. Lobar Inc. of Dillsburg is the general contractor.
