Vacation Bible Schools begin soon

Area churches continue the tradition of offering free Vacation Bible School to kids in the summer. Most are five mornings or evenings of activities that include Bible lessons, music, snacks, games and more.

Faith Chapel United Methodist Church announces "Operation Overboard: Dare to go deep with God" for 3-year-olds through 12th-graders with sessions from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, June 11 to 14. As always, this year's Vacation Bible School will include service projects. The church is on Hunter Run Road, off Route 150 near Bald Eagle State Park. Big Woods Bible Church offers "SonSurf Beach Bash" for 4-year-olds through children who have just completed sixth grade, with sessions from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, June 18 to 22, featuring songs, skits, missionary stories and more. Faith Chapel United Methodist Church fielded a unit in the Beech Creek Memorial Day Parade to promote its Vacation Bible School, “Operation Overboard,” set for June 11 to 14 from 9 a.m. to noon, and its annual Roger A. White Fun Fair, to be held July 18.

Castanea United Methodist Church announces its Vacation Bible School will be held July 8 to 12.

Previously announced Vacation Bible Schools are set for:

r JUNE 10-14 - "Babylon: Daniel's Courage in Captivity," Lock Haven First Church of Christ, 6-8 p.m.

r JUNE 10-15 - "Operation Overboard" for preschoolers to fifth-graders, Phelps Chapel United Methodist, off the Pine Creek exit of Route 220, 6:30-8:30 p.m. The first session will begin at 6 p.m. The last night will feature a program and cookout.

r JUNE 18-21 - "Roaring for Jesus," Summit Hill Wesleyan, 1700 Summit Hill Road, Howard, 7-8:30 p.m., co-sponsored by Marsh Creek Brethren in Christ. Information and transportation arrangements: Arlene at 814-360-0603 or Bonnie at 962-2665.

r JUNE 18-22 - "Sky: Everything is Possible With God," Howard Christian Church.

r JUNE 24-28 - "Sky: Everything is Possible With God" for kindergartners through sixth-graders, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran, Jersey Shore, 6-8 p.m. with registration the first day from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

r JUNE 25-29 "Be a Bible Bookworm" for ages 12 and under, Bible Mission Church, 649 E. Church St., Lock Haven, 6-8 p.m. Information: Pastor Nathan Purdy, 570-541-1603.

r JULY 30-AUG. 3 - "Mane Event" outdoors at Avis United Methodist, 6-8:30 p.m. Closing ceremonies during the 10:15 a.m. service Sunday, Aug. 5.
