LOCK HAVEN - Comcast cable customers may receive a certain number of digital adapters for their television sets without having to pay anything additional.
This offer is scheduled to change July 1, City Council noted at its Monday evening meeting.
Adapters are relatively small, box-shaped devices that allow old-style (analog) TVs to display digital television signals. Comcast's is moving to digital signals and many channels are available only as digital signals. Customers with old TVs who still don't have their adapters yet will want to order them soon.
It was reported that customers are entitled to free boxes. However, some of the information was not right. For example, the number of boxes available to each customer is limited. Customers who want additional boxes can pay a monthly fee for them.
Customers with Digital Starter service, or any service above Digital Starter (those who already have a set-top box), are eligible to order up to two digital adapters at no additional cost before July 1. Additional adapters beyond those two are available for $1.99 per month, and this price will not change on July 1, according to Bob Grove, Comcast's regional public relations and community affairs director.
Limited Basic customers have always been eligible for up to three digital adapters at no additional cost. Additional adapters cost Limited Basic customers 50 cents per month. None of this will change, even after July 1, Grove reported.
