Beech Creek library holding summer reading programs

BEECH CREEK - The Friendship Community Library in Beech Creek will begin registration for the summer reading program, Dream Big - Read!

From 3 to 4 p.m. on June 18, Mr. T. (Phil Taormina) of Mill Hall will make balloon sculptures for the children. From 4 to 5 p.m. there will be stories, crafts and food.

Each youth who registers will receive a booklet. All ages who register, including adults, can sign up for prizes that will be drawn throughout the months of June, July and August. Youth are asked to read or have read to them a minimum of eight books from June 18 to Aug. 27. Studies have shown that students who read eight books over the summer retain the basic literacy skills necessary to begin the next school year. Adults can also keep their brains active by reading along with their children.

The summer reading schedule for the Friendship Community Library is:

r June 18, 3 to 4 p.m.: Summer Reading Program Kickoff with Philip Taormina, Mr. T, The Balloon Man, who will design balloon animals, hats, flowers etc for the children. This will begin the summer reading registration at Beech Creek Library. Stories, crafts and refreshments will follow.

- June 25, 7 p.m. - LHU Planetarium Show Space is limited. Show up early.

- July 2, 3 to 5 p.m. - Follow Your Dreams with stories, crafts and refreshments.

- July 16, 3 to 4 p.m. - Creatures of the Night - Ranger Nicholas Thomas from Bald Eagle State Park Ranger Thomas will talk about the night creatures seen in Pennsylvania, more stories, crafts and refreshments.

- July 30, 3 to 5 p.m. - Reach for Stars READ! We'll look at the planets and stars with books, crafts and refreshments.

- Aug. 13, 3 to 5 p.m. Monster Mash Are You Afraid of the Dark! Follow our stories, crafts and refreshments.

- Aug. 27, 3 to 4 p.m. Certificate Night including a treasure hunt, books, crafts and refreshments.

Along with programs at the Friendship Community Library, library staff will provide programs to be held at Bald Eagle State Park beech area on the following days.

- June 18, 7 to 8 p.m. - Summer Reading Program Kickoff and Registration - Wishing on a Star! Registration will begin with stories, crafts and refreshments.

- July 2, 7 to 8 p.m. Mr. Moon with stories, crafts and refreshments.

- July 16, 7 to 8 p.m. - Creatures of the Night in Pennsylvania more books, crafts and refreshments.

- July 30, 7 to 8 p.m. - Reach for Stars READ! We'll look at the planets and stars with books, crafts and refreshments.

- Aug. 13, to 8 p.m. Certificate Night including a treasure hunt, books, crafts and refreshments.

The Friendship Community Library is located on Main Street Beech Creek. It is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m.

It is a member of the Annie Halenbake Ross Library, and the Clinton and Centre County United Ways.
