Edward C. "Chief" Slegle, 79, of High Street, Jersey Shore, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Williamsport Hospital.
He was born Aug. 28, 1932 in Bald Eagle Township, Clinton County, the son of Charles and Mary Stiner Slegle.
He was married to the former Sara Mae Nichols on April 28, 1962 and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a truck driver as an independent, and also drove for Milton Transportation and Jones Trucking.
He was a proud member of the Korean War Veterans and the BPOE Lodge 1075 of Jersey Shore.
He enjoyed NASCAR and Number 24 and worked the gate as a tender for Wasson's Clinton County Speedway.
He enjoyed his buddies and having his coffee at the local coffee shops.
His survivors include his wife, Sara; one stepson, Ronald (Pam) Welshans of Pine Creek; a brother, Fred Slegle of Mill Hall; and a grandson, Judd.
He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Herlocher.
Chief's Life Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in the Pine Creek Valley Christian Church, Sulfur Run Road at Locomo Lane, Jersey Shore, with Don Lomison officiating.
Visitors will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home," 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore.
Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery with full military honors being accorded by the Korean War Veterans.
