Public invited to watch mock mass casualty incident Saturday at fairgrounds

June 15, 2012
The Express

LOCK HAVEN - On Saturday the Clinton County Emergency Services agencies will be participating in a mock mass casualty incident at the Clinton County Fairgrounds in Mackeyville.

The drill will begin at approximately 9 a.m. and is expected to last for three hours. Many fire departments, emergency medical services, rescue companies, Geisinger Life Flight and Lock Haven Hospital will be participating.

A mass casualty incident drill is a mock emergency scenario in which first responders practice the training they have received. This drill will allow the participants to practice appropriate triage and treatment of a multiple victim disaster without the real stress of an actual accident. It will involve a roof collapse at an exhibit hall during the county fair after a strong thunderstorm.

Volunteers will play the part of the 20 to 30 victims involved in the incident.

The EMS Committee of the Clinton County Fire Chiefs Association invites the public to join the emergency personnel to see how emergency services handles many victims of an accident and learn what an individual can do if involved in such an incident.

Narration of the incident will be provided, along with explanations of the techniques and concepts used to handle many victims at once.

Geisinger's Life Flight helicopter is scheduled to make an appearance and be available for viewing.

Also, many pieces of emergency apparatus from throughout the county will be on site for the public to view.
