This is in response to PennDOT's decision to transfer the traffic problem from the intersection of Pine Run Road and Route 220 in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, to the intersection of the western end of Youngs Road and Route 220 at Dr. Baker's Veterinarian Clinic in Piatt Township.
Youngs Road connects to Lime Kiln Road, which carries all the traffic from Level Corner Road because there are no left turns allowed at the intersection of Level Corner Road and Route 220.
If a traffic count was taken, I'm sure there's already more traffic that uses the crossover at the western end of Youngs Road than uses the Pine Run Road.
I own five acres of land at a home along Youngs Road and Lime Kiln Road at this crossover site. With this new deceleration lane for traffic from Williamsport on Route 220 being used because no left turns are allowed at Pine Run, it will clog the flow of traffic from Youngs Road which is trying to enter Route 220 to Jersey Shore. Space between the north and south lanes of Route 220 in this area is very limited. It is less than the length of any school bus. Many school buses use this crossover every day because it is the last access entrance to Route 220 in the Jersey Shore Area School District. Campers and trailers from the many river lots in the Level Corner area also run this gauntlet every spring, fall and during threats of flooding. Add to this the traffic from Maranatha Bible Church and the veterinarian clinic, and a disaster with far-reaching consequences is being created at this crossover.
The section of Route 220 traversing Piatt Township had to be built on top of the original highway from Williamsport because of the terrain and geographic location. It seems Mother Nature created a bottleneck where Larrys Creek, an overhead railroad bridge, a solid rock mountain, a canal and the close proximity of the Susquehanna River and the end of Route 287 all meet.
It seems our township is subjected to receiving anything that is undesirable for others.
First in question is the dismantling of the Riverdale Trailer Park to make way for a gas company water withdrawal pump station so it can suck 3 million gallons of water a day from the Susquehanna River, through a buried waterline to gas drilling operations to the north.
The second case in question is transferring a traffic problem from Woodward Township to Piatt Township. to save the price of installing traffic lights, which would be the only way to solve this problem.
