DANVILLE - The National Business Group on Health, a nonprofit association of large U.S. employers, has presented Geisinger Health System with its Gold Award for commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging its employees and families to support and maintain healthy lifestyles.
Geisinger was among 66 U.S. employers that received the 2012 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award. Geisinger joins American Express, Chrysler Group LLC, General Mills, Hewlett-Packard Co., Sprint, The Home Depot and Verizon Communications in the Gold category.
"A recognition such as this validates our leaders' investment in the health and wellness of our employees, the innovation of our benefits package, the multidisciplinary efforts that lead to the development of these programs and the commitment by our entire population to the programming we have implemented," said Amy Brayford, chief human resource officer, Geisinger Health System. "We are honored to have been awarded with this distinction."
Geisinger was cited for cultivating a culture of wellness among its employees. More than five years ago, the organization established the Employee Wellness program, which identifies, develops and promotes interactive educational opportunities highlighting the benefits of healthy behaviors, and the risk factors associated with chronic disease. Most recently, the organization launched the incentive-based MyHealth Rewards program to help motivate and activate employees toward healthy lifestyles.
"We are very pleased to recognize Geisinger for its ongoing commitment to providing lifestyle improvement programs that encourage healthy lifestyles for their employees," said Helen Darling, president and CEO of the National Business Group on Health. "Geisinger and its leadership should be proud of their dedication and recognition of the importance of promoting and maintaining a healthy workforce. We congratulate them on receiving this award."
The National Business Group on Health is the nation's only nonprofit membership organization of large employers devoted exclusively to finding innovative and forward-thinking solutions to their most important health care and related benefits issues, while being the voice for large employers on national health care issues.
