Homer B. Wolford, 77, formerly of Kephart Plaza, Lock Haven, passed on to the Lord Tuesday morning, July 17, 2012 in the Manor Care Health Center in Jersey Shore after a brave battle with diabetes and cancer.
Born March 6, 1935 in Bellefonte, he was the son of Lewis A. Wolford and the former Harriet O. Dunklebarger.
Homer graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1953. He served in the Naval Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1960. He also served as Chief of Police in Pine Creek Township in the 1960s.
He was a former employee at Woolrich, Inc., Piper Corp, and insurance salesman for Banker's Life and Casualty. He retired as a mail carrier for the former Island Route and Woolrich.
Homer was a member of the Swissdale United Methodist Church, a member of the Lock Haven Moose Club and a former member of the Bald Eagle Motorcycle Club.
He loved to travel and enjoyed woodworking and for many years, umpired for the Lock Haven Men's Slow Pitch League and the Girl's Fast Pitch League.
Surviving are his son, Daniel B. (Diana) of Williamsport; his daughter, Virginia (John) Pizzuto, of Lock Haven; five grandsons, nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary McKivison of Annville; and two brothers, William of Mill Hall and Nelson of Florida. Also surviving are his fiance, Jean Merrill of Lock Haven and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers Larue and Philip, sister Eunice and his faithful dog, Casey.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from noon Friday until time of services in the funeral home. Rev. David McCoy will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Rest Haven Memorial Park.
