Don’t just single out Paterno, Spanier

July 20, 2012
MAXINE DAVIDSON - Lock Haven

I am writing concerning the report put out by former FBI director Louis Freeh.

I have kept up on all that has gone on and I have some questions and comments of my own.

I absolutely despise the report about Joe Paterno. I'm not a fan of football, but I think he is being smeared in the worse way.

What I would like to know and what I have not heard is what was Jerry Sandusky doing on campus with a child in tow. It's not one person's fault. Was there a school on campus? There must have been dozens and even hundreds of students and teachers who saw Sandusky with a child in tow. Why weren't all of them held accountable for not questioning that?

Total disregard for the safety and welfare of Sandusky's child victims by anyone should be emphasized, not just Joe Pa and former university president Graham Spanier. Sandusky is not a saint. I would have questioned it in a minute.

I think the papers, the press and the investigators should stop slandering the Paterno family and ask some questions that should, in my thinking, have been asked in the beginning. With Sandusky entering a classroom and taking victims each day, why was he not required to give a written request from a parent like everyone else was and is required to do? He sure had a lot of people snookered, did he not?

I would like to quote a current quotation that was in the paper on on Friday: Albert Einstein once said, "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe.
