SPECIAL

MEETING

The Liberty Township Sportsmen's Association will hold a special meeting at the clubhouse along Marsh Creek Road on Saturday, July 28 at 10 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is voting on the completely rewritten by-laws. Members are urged to attend and cast their vote. For a copy of the newly proposed by-laws, members may stop by the clubhouse pavilion and look in the green mail box.

Remember that the Marsh Creek Road is closed to traffic because of the bridge replacement project, so you may need to use the detour in your travels to the sportsmen's club.

JACKSONVILLE FESTIVAL

The annual Jacksonville Cemetery Association Festival will be held on Saturday. The food will be ready at 5 p.m. Music will be provided by the Lockport Drifters from 7 to 10 p.m. Good food, games and old-fashioned fun and fellowship are always available at the Jacksonville Festival. Call Joyce at 625-2278 for information. The festival is held rain or shine!

Be sure to look up Dean Rogers at the Jacksonville Festival and wish him a (belated) happy birthday. Dean is 94 years young.

CHICKEN BBQ

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Howard VFW Club will sponsor a chicken barbeque tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. Chicken halves will be $5 each or you may opt for the meal which includes macaroni salad, baked beans, cole slaw and a roll for $7.

The chicken will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so go early to make sure you get to eat!

For more information, call Anita at 814-264-8042.

SUPPORT OUR FIREMEN

The food concession stand at the beach area of Bald Eagle State Park will be open today, and you can help support the Howard Fire Company by eating there. Darlene has a nice selection of foods on the menu to choose from, and 10 percent of the receipts for the day will be donated to the fire company.

Citizen's Hook and Ladder Company in Milesburg is sponsoring a whiffle ball tournament Saturday. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the games start at 10:30. The cost to participate is $70 per team. You need seven players for a team. Games will be played at the Milesburg park grounds. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the park grounds. For more information call 814-574-2122.

KARATE CAMP

Howard United Methodist Church will sponsor a free karate camp at the church August 20 to 23 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The camp is for children entering second through sixth grades. There is a maximum class size of 20 children, so if you are interested, call the church at 625-2362 or send an email to howardumc@susumc.org stating your child's name and age along with a telephone number where you can easily be reached.

The karate class is under the direction of Master Terry Summers and his wife Nicole.

DINNER MUSIC

The Back Porch String Band will be playing at Brother's Pizza in Howard tomorrow night from 6 to 9 p.m. Stop by the pizza shop to eat and enjoy the local band.

BLOOD DRIVE

There will be a blood drive on Monday from noon to 7 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church located at 400 S. Fourth St. in Philipsburg, in honor of Emily Whitehead. Emily is a courageous little girl who was diagnosed with leukemia and is now in remission.

Emily received more than 35 units of blood products during the course of her treatment, and this blood drive is being held in her honor to help others who may need to receive blood donations.

Emily is the 7-year-old daughter of Tom and Kari. She lives in Philipsburg with her parents and their dog, Lucy. Emily loves purple, so wear your purple on Monday and donate blood in support of Emily.
