LOCK HAVEN - Dickey Elementary School has received a $5,000 Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant for the creation of an outdoor reading room.

Marie Snyder, a Title 1 teacher, wrote the grant request describing an area that many could enjoy. She described an outdoor learning area that will enhance creative collaboration for both students and staff. The area, at the rear of the school, will encourage a reader to relax and elicit learning across the curriculum in all subjects.

Snyder said every member of the staff is excited to complete this project that will include a concrete porch with a pergola, a picnic table and benches.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be the first of many events held in the outdoor reading room at Dickey Elementary School.

"We wish to thank our friends at Lowe's for generously supporting this important project and Workman Masonry in Mill Hall for volunteering time and expertise for the project," said Snyder.
