JERSEY SHORE - Megan A. Brookens, daughter of Jacqueline Brookens of Jersey Shore, is the Business and Professional Women's Club Girl of the Month for September.
Megan has been historian and vice president of the local FBLA chapter and earned numerous top awards through regional, state and national competition, most recently earning fifth-place honors at the national level.
She has served two years as a Relay for Life captain and been vice president of the Model U.N. and Constitutional Convention. Currently she serves as president of National Honor Society.

A three-year varsity letter-winner in soccer, she earned Web Development Associate certification in 2012 and was a semifinalist in the Conrad Spirit of Innovations competition. She also was selected to be a part of the NASA Inspire Online Learning Community for 2011-13.
Her other school activities include four years participating on Student Council and Homecoming Committee; three years in Outdoor Club and Mock Trial; two years in National Business Honor Society, track and field, the school musical, choir, Upward Bound and the Senator Yaw Seminar; and one year in Women's Ensemble and on the Recycling Committee.
Outside school, she has volunteered for the Salvation Army, at the Valley View Nursing Center and in the SWAN program, teaching computer literacy skills to senior members of the community.
Megan said she also enjoys laughing, baking, kayaking, writing, photography and traveling. She plans to attend college to prepare for a career in psychology or medicine.
