BEECH CREEK - The Howard Area Food Bank is open on different dates this month, due to the Labor Day holiday. It will be open Monday, Sept. 24 from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
The food bank is in the former Beech Creek Elementary School and is sponsored by the Howard Area Lions Club.
It is normally open the first and third Monday of the month. Upcoming dates are Oct. 1 for Centre County and Oct. 15 for Clinton County.
On Oct. 15, the Pennsylvania Department of Health will be on hand to give free flu shots to residents of both counties who meet the income guidelines.
Because of the economy and resulting budget cuts, all food recipients who would get a turkey for Christmas must be registered before November, the Lions announce. Families who hope to receive Toys for Tots at Christmastime also must be registered before November.
