Over 50 searchers reunite 3-year-old with grandparents

Toddler missing over 8 hours on Thursday on top of Keating Mountain

KEATING - Over 50 volunteers scoured the wooded area on Round Island Road, a road on top of Keating Mountain over 30 miles west of Renovo, for hours on Thursday into Thursday night, searching for a 3-year-old boy from Shippensburg, who had wandered from a camp he was sharing with his grandparents at around 1 p.m. on Thursday.

After nightfall brought chilly temperatures, and a little over eight hours from first disappearing, the youngster was found and considered relatively safe after the long ordeal at 9:27 p.m.

South Renovo Citizen's Hose Company and Assistant Chief Eric Knauff were one of the groups on the scene, which Knauff recalled as nerve-wracking as the crews arrived just before 5 p.m.

"The longer the road went on, the bigger the area seemed," he said. "I think everyone of us got more concerned the further we traveled."
