Confer Trucking owner dies

HOWARD-An oil drum explosion yesterday afternoon at Confer Trucking resulted in the death of one of the owners, William Confer Jr., Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers confirmed.

Confer died around 2 p.m. yesterday in the accident at 324 Mill St. Ext., Sayers said, and an autopsy will be conducted.

Reports indicate that Confer and another employee were cutting off the lid of an oil drum when the explosion occurred. Life Flight helicopter services from Geisinger were called. Fire crews were setting up a landing zone at the nearby Howard Elementary School, according to emergency communications.
