Shooting in Renovo termed ‘homicide’

But no charges filed

October 20, 2012

SOUTH RENOVO -The shooting death of a man in South Renovo last Monday has been classified a homicide, Clinton County District Attorney Mike Salisbury revealed.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that a crime has occurred in the death of Robert D. Bittner, 25, of Lewisberry, Pa., the prosecutor said.

No charges have been filed, nor will they be filed, unless a determination has been made that a crime has occurred, Salisbury said.

Salisbury said the investigation is continuing and when it reaches a point where all reports are complete and available for review - including the results of the autopsy and any forensic testing -he and the Pennsylvania State Police will meet to discuss the details and determine if any further investigation is required.

At that time, Salisbury said, a decision will be made regarding what, if any, charges will be filed.

"We will be conducting a careful and thorough investigation" before making any decisions, the prosecutor said.

According to police, Bittner died after allegedly being shot by his father-in-law, Eugene Pizzino, 67, of South Renovo, during a dispute at the Pizzino residence along Clinton Avenue.

Police said Pizzino mixed into a domestic dispute between his daughter, who police would not identify, and her husband, Bittner.

Neither Salisbury nor police will, at this time, release any information about what led Pizzino to shoot Bittner.
