WILLIAMSPORT - Mara Carpenter, a nurse anesthetist with Susquehanna Health, was commissioned into the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps, as a 1st Lieutenant specializing in Nurse Anesthesia on Dec. 13.

Mara describes herself as a service oriented person and says her children inspired her to pursue a position with the Army Reserve.

"I have a son who serves active duty in the Army and a daughter who is a behavioral health specialist in the Army Reserve Medical Corps. It was they who inspired me to pursue this position as a means to honor their service and sacrifices by providing care to our service people in our country," she said. "I felt a need to be a vector of comfort to the injured and their families and use my experience in my practice to deliver high quality nurse anesthesia care in a variety of military settings. I am truly excited about this and hope that I will stand up well to the task before me and make my family proud as I try hard to fulfill this aspiration."
