LOCK HAVEN - The first ever "Soup Off" sponsored by the Salvation Army will be dedicated to Alecia Frey.
Alecia, who accidentally drowned in the Susquehanna River last summer, was the epitome of a Salvation Army volunteer, helping out wherever and whenever she could. Her life revolved around her Salvation Army family, and she is sorely missed.
The Soup Off, which will raise money to continue to feed local hungry people through the Salvation Army's feeding programs, is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Haywood's On the Green in Mill Hall.
This photo shows Alecia Frey ringing the bell at Christmas time at the K-Mart in Mill Hall. Alecia drowned in the Susquehanna River this summer.
Six local restaurants will be serving their favorite soups and diners will be voting for the soup they like the best. The restaurant receiving the most votes will take home the Golden Ladle Award.
Restaurants participating are Aungst Family Restaurant, Beech Creek Furst Corner, Curt's Smokin Ribs, Dutch Haven, Haywoods on the Green and Stella A's.
Tickets for the Soup Off are available at all six restaurants, at The Express, Salvation Army Thrift Store and Downtown Lock Haven Office, and can be purchased at the door.
There will be two servings - 11 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Diners will receive a hearty lunch including soups, breads, desserts and beverage. There will also be door prizes and a silent auction.
The Salvation Army is encouraging all residents to come out and enjoy a warm lunch on a cool autumn day, vote for a local restaurant's signature soup, and help feed the hungry people of this community.
