LOCK HAVEN - Area residents may have received a correspondence from "Property Transfer Services" of Sioux Falls, S.D., advertising a service to obtain a copy of your deed. The service is provided for "up to $83.00."
The folks at the Clinton County Deeds and Records office are reminding residents that they could come down to the courthouse and obtain a copy for less than $5.
The document appears to be very official and government like - but it's not? There's a disclaimer in the last paragraph saying the offer is not being made "by an agency of the government." And while this service may be "legal," it does appear to charge a very large fee for a very small service, one provided by our local government officials at a very reasonable expense.
If you receive such a document and have any questions, contact the Deeds office at the Clinton County Courthouse.
