Central Mountain girls’ tennis gives effort to be proud of

Despite losing the match, 5-2, to Jersey Shore, Central Mountain had plenty to take away and proud of in its girls’ tennis match.

Becky Piergallini, a freshman, defeated Meghan Herman, 6-4 6-7 11-9, in singles. She then went on to help win a doubles match.

“We were really pleased with Piergallini, who is a freshman. She broke through for us today,” Central Mountain coach Pete Wert said. “It was nice to see that today. We are really pleased with that.”

“Jersey Shore is tough, and I’m pleased with the way the team played.”

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Central Mountain’s struggles continued as it dropped a 3-1 contest to Dubois.

“We are struggling to define who we are and how to showcase ourselves in games,” Central Mountain coach Ryan Veltri said. “We have great potential, but we have yet to put the pieces together.”

Becca Leuthold was able to tie the game with a second half unassisted goal.

The challenges also continued for Jersey Shore, which dropped a, 2-1, contest against Hughesville Wednesday. Hannah Rhinehart tallied Jersey Shore’s lone goal.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Alex Boyer was at it again, helping BEA secure a 0-0 tie against Mountain League leading Tyrone.

It was the Eagles second shutout of the week.

“The week really went well,” BEA coach Jason Bair said. “We ended it with two straight shutouts. I’m excited about the defense.”
