Lady Eagles win season finale over California 2-1

LOCK HAVEN — The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team had so much fun playing in its season finale that the Lady Eagles provided some “bonus” soccer for the fans at a chilly Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday evening.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Eagles drew first blood when Janelle Swartz received a pass from Marah Foltz and put the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 LHU lead.

However, the LHU lead was short-lived as less than three minutes later, California (PA) deadlocked the game at 1-all on a goal by Luisa Holzapfel.

Locked in a 1-all stalemate with the Lady Vulcans, LHU scored in the first overtime when Foltz received a long pass from Gabby Kishbaugh who put the ball past the Cal keeper, allowing the Lady Eagles to sprint onto the turf with a hard-fought 2-1 win in the season finale.

“We didn’t have as many wins as I would have liked, but we had more wins than they had since 2008,” said a happy LHU head coach Kathy Brown. “With that number, we are certainly happy to be moving on up in that direction with Lock Haven women’s soccer. It took us a while , but I think we outplayed their team.”
