Mother nature may have had an effect on the small crowd size at Bellefonte High School last night, but the Clearfield High School Bison (10-7 Overall) made the long trip worth it with a 39-34 victory over the Lady Raiders (7-8 Overall).

Raider senior Lauren Young and freshman Mallorie Smith each scored a game high 10 points for the Lady Raiders in the loss.

Clearfield’s Ally Lindstrom scored 13 points and Alayna Ryan scored 12 points to give Clearfield the big road victory.

The win for the Bison was out of revenge since Bellefonte beat the Bison back in December 29th at Clearfield High School with a final score of 55-52.

Both teams were on point to start the first quarter. Clearfield had a 10-6 lead after one quarter. Both teams combined for 1-for-7 at the free throw line in the quarter.

Nothing different occurred in the second quarter as the Bison had a a 16-11 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

With the score staying close half way through, the Lady Bison wanted to get away early to start the second half, which is exactly what they did.

Clearfield had 13 points in the third quarter to gain a comfortable 29-19 lead heading into the final eight minutes of the game.

Heading into the final quarter, the Lady Raiders were looking for a big comeback to send the Red Raider fans home happy.

Bellefonte was taking advantage of some missed free throws with four minutes left in the game, but the good effort at the end wasn’t enough to earn their eighth win of the season losing by only five points.

Red Raider head coach Adam Gearhart wasn’t very pleased with the way his Lady Raiders played.

“We didn’t play the defensive game plan,” said Gearhart. “We shouldn’t have to wait till the end to make it close.”

When asked about what the team needs to work on in the future, Gearhart simply said “everything.”

Bellefonte Lady Raiders will look to improve starting tomorrow before hosting Central Mountain High School (0-14 Overall) on Wednesday, January 25th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Bellefonte High School.
