Haven trio shines at Mat-Town Open II Tournament
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team wrapped up the 2016-17 regular season today (Sunday, Feb. 5) by hosting the inaugural Mat-Town Open II Tournament, and the Bald Eagle trio of Ronnie Perry (Christiana, Pa./Solanco), Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) and Tristan Sponseller (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) dominated their respective weight classes, going a combined 11-0.
Perry went 3-0 and won the individual title at 141.
Both Shoop and Sponseller were a perfect 4-0 competing in round-robin action at 149 and 197, respectively.
Shoop opened the day with three straight tech falls and his 4-0 record today came by way of a combined 56-0 score.
Today’s tournament action capped a busy week for the Bald Eagles. On Thursday (Feb. 2), Lock Haven dominated rival Clarion on the way to a 27-12 win, before topping Sacred Heart, 45-3 on Friday (Feb. 3).
LHU will return to action on Saturday, March 4 at the 2017 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Championships (at Bloomsburg).
