The Jersey Shore girl’s basketball team (15-4) celebrated senior night last night as it crushed the visiting Selinsgrove High School Seals (12-10) with a final score of 51-38.

Jersey Shore High School honored its five Lady Bulldogs before opening tip-off, including Sidney Trunzo, Olivia Edler, Harley Lorson, Liz Severino, and Abby Watkins.

The Lady Bulldogs were sinking shots all over the court in the first half, including a three-point buzzer-beater from junior Averie Hess in the first quarter.

Great defense was also a huge factor in the first and second quarter, which only gave up four points in the first quarter and three points in the second quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs had a 31-7 lead heading back to the lockers rooms in halftime.

After getting dominated in the first half, Selinsgrove knew that it would be tough for a big comeback, but it was absolutely possible.

The Lady Seals had a positive mindset coming out of the locker rooms in halftime, and it paid off in the third quarter after outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 15-7 to trim the huge Jersey Shore lead down to 16 points.

Even though the lead was still huge for Jersey Shore, things got more interesting in the fourth quarter with Selinsgrove scoring a huge rally to trim the lead down to eight points with two minutes left in the game.

The student section and the families of the Lady Bulldogs were starting to get worried heading toward the end, but some costly turnovers and foul trouble started to be a problem for the Lady Seals, which later gave the Lady Bulldogs the senior night victory.

Jersey Shore head coach Darrin Bischof was thrilled with the way his Lady Bulldogs performed in the senior night atmosphere.

“I thought we were as intense in the first half as we have been all year,” said Bischof. “I was very pleased with the way the defense played and we talked about intensity the entire time when we were in the locker room.”

The Jersey Shore girl’s basketball squad will have three games in three days on Thursday-Saturday this week.

The Lady Bulldog’s will travel to Milton Area High School on Thursday, Feb. 9 to take on the Lady Black Panthers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
