LOCK HAVEN — The Lock Haven YMCA Loggerheads Swim Team and the LHU Women’s Swim Team hosted the Second Annual Silver Districts and Novice Championships recently.

The event provides 8 and under swimmers an opportunity to compete and be recognized for their efforts throughout the year. For swimmers 9 years and up who have not qualified for the District Championships in York, it gives them a chance to swim for awards and for a qualifying time. The event grew to 185 swimmers from nine teams this year.

Jersey Shore took home the team championship with Lock Haven and Ridgeway tying for second, and State College coming in third place.

Jessica Becker, head coach said “The Jersey Shore YMCA swim team was excited to participate in the Silver District and Novice Championship meet for the second year. We had 40 swimmers participate and each one of them had a memorable day. Most won several awards for their efforts. The smiles on my swimmers’ faces were priceless! This has become my favorite meet of the year because of all the special things they do beyond just the awards. The entire day I am overwhelmed with such happiness and love celebrating with our swimmers. The meet builds swimmer confidence and gets them excited about the possibilities of the next season. I look forward to the third year.”

We would like to thank Clinton County Commissioners Jeff Snyder and Pete Smeltz for handing out awards. Pete Smeltz said, “I’m delighted to see the Loggerheads hosting such a fine event. The large turnout, the enthusiasm of the crowd was awesome. I think it’s great to provide this opportunity for visitors to come and participate here.”

“I was very impressed and appreciated the opportunity to witness the level of competition and to see the recognition given to the participants. I was astonished to see the number in attendance and the distance that some of them traveled to come to the meet. Well done, Loggerheads!” said Jeff Snyder.
