Williamsport P.A.- Julian Garcia’s season-high seven innings was backed by a late inning rally as the Crosscutters topped the Spikes 4-2.

Crosscutters starter Julian Garcia and Spikes starter Anthony Shew were spectacular, dueling for the first seven innings of this afternoon’s ball game.

State College got to Garcia in the 2nd inning, getting a pair of hits from Brandon Benson and Tyler Lancaster to lead off the frame. Edwin Figuera plated the first run with an RBI ground out to Nick Maton, scoring Benson to give the Spikes a 1-0 lead.

J.D. Crowe extended the lead with a RBI single to center that chased home Lancaster to give State College a 2-0 lead.

Garcia went seven strong, allowing the two runs on three hits. He walked three batters and struck out eight, which is the second most he has totaled in a single outing this season.

Williamsport’s bats came to his aide in the bottom of the 7th inning against Anthony Shew, as Adam Haseley led off the inning with a single to right, followed up by a swipe of 2nd. With Jhailyn Ortiz reaching on a one-out single putting runners on the corners, Josh Stephen laced a two-out pitch to the wall in right, scoring Haseley and Ortiz to tie the game at 2-2.

It was Stephen’s seventh and eighth RBI of the season.

Austin Listi followed with a walk against Steven Farinaro, to give the Cutters a man on 1st and 2nd base for Rodolfo Duran. Duran lofted a ball down the right field line, scoring Stephen to give the Crosscutters the 3-2 lead and give Duran his second RBI of the season.

Anthony Shew went 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk, striking out six as he pitched better than his line and result indicate.

Jhailyn Ortiz gave the Cutters an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th inning, lining a Farinaro offering down the 3rd base line in to the corner in left, scoring Adam Haseley from 2nd base. Ortiz stopped at 2nd with a double and his seventh RBI.

Williamsport makes their way to State College tomorrow for the middle game of this three-game series with the Spikes. Luis Carrasco is scheduled to make the start for the Crosscutters as first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
