Lady Bucks fall to Muncy in Farwell, 77-21

FARWELL — The Lady Bucks began last night’s game against Muncy carrying a 2-15 record, but having put together their best four string game of the season. The losing streak continued, but improvements were a constant right up until Monday night’s eight point loss at Meadow Brook Christian.

The wheels however fell off a bit last night as turnovers and missed shots led to a long night in Farwell with The Lady Indians rolling on to a 77-21 win.

The powerhouse Muncy team put the game away early, jumping out to a 14-0 lead in less than three minutes from the opening whistle.

The Lady Indians defense forced the Bucktail team into turnovers and forced shots in the first period and continued into the second half. Paced by Erin Bigelow’s eight first quarter points, Muncy rolled up a 31-0 lead with 2:11 in the first half when Bucktail Senior Maria D’Onofrio put the Lady Bucks on the board with a pair of foul shots.

D’Onofrio would score nine points in the second half, but Muncy limited the Lady Bucks to just six made shots that weren’t from the foul line.

Coach Carl Gentzyel said following the game that the start was just too slow to give to a team like Muncy.

“Early turnovers just led to a quick hole that we fell in and couldn’t get out of, that was a tough one,” the coach said following the game. “Our shots weren’t falling, we weren’t boxing out, give all the credit to Muncy, we gave them multiple looks at the basket even when they didn’t score and they didn’t miss twice often, they’re a great team.”

Gentzyel is hoping that the team can return to their upswing that they had in their game before last night’s set back.

“The second half saw Maria getting us on the board, Myka Poorman picked up a few anticipated steals, we need that to carry over,” Gentzyel continued. “The previous four games were going much better for us, we’ll work on finding our offense and defense that we had been showing and try to rebound in Galeton.”

Bucktail fell to 2-16 following the loss. They have six games remaining on the season and will next be at Galeton on Saturday.
