Lady Wildcats Swimming wins, 91-77

On Tuesday night, the Central Mountain High School girl’s swimming team had an excellent showing en route to defeating Central Columbia, 91-77. The boys lost 108-59.

Junior Alayna Rounsey had a successful leg doing the 50 butterfly in the opening medley relay. And she finished the 100 Backstroke in her individual event. Rounsey also had the fastest split time in her 200 free relay.

Rachel Marek had two nice wins: the 200 Individual Medley, 2:26.34 and her 100 Breastroke, 1:12.85

Needing a 1:14.50 in her 100 Backstroke for a district appearance, freshman Morgan Brian swam 1:14.46 for a third place finish, scoring three points in the girls win.

“Our swimmers are at that point in the season where everyone is really tired,” said head coach Carol Matheney. “The times reflect that, but everyone from other schools are at the same point. We ust swim through it and hang on until the postseason.

On the boys side, junior James Riccardo won both of his events in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Back against a deep Central Columbia lineup.

Junior David Orndorf held his own against a strong CC breastroker and came in second with a 1:10.92, while senior Raahi Chapla came in 4th place scoring two points in the boys effort.

Next up for the swimmers will be Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in Shamokin in a tri-meet with Shamokin and Lewisburg at 4:30 PM.

Next home meet will be Senior Night, Friday, February 2, 2018 against Mount Carmel at Zimmerli Pool, LHU Campus, 6:00 PM.
