LHU Softball picked 2nd in PSAC Central poll

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven University softball team was picked second in the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

Only Bloomsburg was picked ahead of Lock Haven, however both teams received three first-place votes.

West Chester was picked as the favorite in the East and Seton Hill was tabbed as the preseason-favorite to win the West.

2017 PSAC Central Coach of the Year Kelly Shannon has plenty to be excited about this upcoming season. Last season, LHU went 28-21 overall and 13-7 in PSAC play, and the Bald Eagles advanced to the PSAC Tournament. She will return two All-Conference players this year to help lead the charge.

Returning

All-Conference

-Junior, Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), pitcher, (two-time All-PSAC, 2016 Pitcher of the Year)

-Junior, Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy), short stop

2017 Highlights

-The Bald Eagles went 3-2 overall at the PSAC Tournament and highlighting their exciting 2017 tournament run was a 3-0 day, all three wins came in elimination games after LHU opened the tournament with a loss.

-Returning star pitcher Bekah Slattery had a 16-11 overall record while striking out 134 batters.

-Faith Ceely also returns as a dominant hitter as she averaged .309 at the plate while accounting for 34 runs and swiped 11 bags.

-The Bald Eagle offense was potent last year as they recorded 17 games where they scored over five runs and eight games with multiple home runs including three against Gannon in the PSAC playoffs.

The Haven opens the 2018 season at the Snow Bird Freeze Out. The Bald Eagles will play five games from Friday, February 16 to Sunday, February 18.
