JERSEY SHORE — Six members of the Jersey Shore High School basketball program were elected to the Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference (PHAC) All-Star team.

Representing the girls team were Hannah Kauffman, Averie Hess and Sadie Griswold. On the boys side, Junior Armstrong, Nate Ewing and Jay Dincher represented the Bulldogs.

Hannah Kauffman was named PHAC first team MVP after leading the Bulldogs in scoring, rebounding and steals. She averaged 19 points per game and recorded 43 points in the season opener against Selinsgrove. Her 16 point performance against Mifflinburg on February 8 boosted her career-scoring total to over 1,000 points.

“Hannah has been a key part in helping our team compete,” Jersey Shore girls coach Darrin Bischof said of Kauffman. “She plays very hard and will only get better with her senior year yet to go.”

Averie Hess received first team and all-defensive team honors. She averaged 10 points per game, led the Bulldogs with three assists a game and was second on the team after Kauffman in steals.

“Averie has been instrumental in our program becoming competitive,” Bischof said of Hess. “As a point guard, she has done a great job leading the team. Her drive and spirit comes from her love of the game.”

Sadie Griswold was named to the third team. Although just a sophomore and undersized for her position, she was second on the team in rebounding.

“Sadie was a very consistent player on offense and defensively she was very solid,” Bischof said of Griswold. “Sadie has the talent and work ethic a great player needs and we look forward to her getting better.”

Janel Eck was recognized as a honorable mention.

“Janel was great under the basket,” Bischof said of Eck. “She was outsized but just found a way to be third on the team in rebounds. She delivered key blocks and points versus Montoursville in a key win.”

Jersey Shore ended the season at an impressive 15-8 with three All-Star selections.

“We are very proud of all of our girls,” Bischof said. “The team plays hard and always wanted to get better and we did as the season got longer. What I am most proud for each individual above is that they realize that it is a team sport. Each player has worked hard during the season to get better. To be recognized like this makes us all very proud.”

For the boys, Junior Armstrong was named first team co-MVP, along with Central Mountain’s Collin Jones. Armstrong recorded 10 double-doubles, averaged 17 points per game and had three contests where he topped the 30-point mark.

“Junior was our MVP for the season,” Jersey Shore boys coach Scott Munro said. “He worked very hard in the offseason and had a very good year for us. He was our best offensive player, leading us in scoring, shooting percentage and three-point percentage.”

Nate Ewing was elected to the second team. He led JS with a team high 43 three-pointers this season, and was second on the team with 13 points per game.

“Nate was a very solid contributor for us this season,” Munro said of Ewing. “Nate is an excellent shooter who really helped to stretch the floor for us this year. He also contributed on the defensive end with over four rebounds a game and almost two steals a game.”

And Jay Dincher received third team honors. He led the Bulldogs in free throw percentage, was second in rebounding and third in scoring.

“Jay was one of our most versatile players,” Munro said of Dincher. “Jay contributed to our team in a variety of ways, had several double-doubles this year and had nine games this season where he was perfect from the free throw line.”
