LHU Softball wraps up the PFX tournament

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team (7-9) wrapped up its spring break trip at the PFX Tournament as they took on Purdue University-Northwest (9-7) before taking on Wayne State (13-6) to wrap up LHU’s 10 games in six days. The Bald Eagles fell in game one 3-0 before falling in game two 4-2 in eight innings.

In game one, the game turned into a pitcher’s duel as Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and Mia Stevens combined to only give up nine total hits in the game.

Slattery gave up only four hits while striking out four in the game.

On offense, five different players for LHU tallied a hit. Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) led the team, going 1-2 with a base hit while Madison Mathes (Hammonton, Pa./Hammonton), Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa/Troy), Chloe Kennedy (Elkton, Md./Caravel Academy) and Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) went 1-3 with base hits of their own.

In game two, The Bald Eagles and Wayne State needed extra innings to decide the game, but LHU couldn’t quite hold on as Wayne State was able to get the win.

Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) led the Lock Haven offense, going 1-3 with two RBIs. Lindsay and Caputo also both tallied a hit for LHU.

Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa/Loyalsock) was strong on the mound for The Haven, going 5 2/3 innings while giving up four hits and only one earned run.

Overall, Lock Haven finished the PFX tournament 6-4.

Up next for The Haven will be another road contest as they will travel to Millersville on Friday, March 23 for a double-header with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m. After that game LHU will make its long awaited home-opener on Saturday, March 24 when they are set to host Slippery Rock in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
