Penn State’s Cameron Steele signs with North Carolina FC

UNIVERSITY PARK – Former Penn State men’s soccer student-athlete Cameron Steele (Clayton, N.C.) signed with North Carolina FC Monday, March 19.

“It means the world to me to still be playing the game I love, especially for my hometown club,” said Steele. “I had a lot of setbacks throughout high school and college from injuries, so it is a testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and God’s love that I am able to continue my soccer career. My journey is just getting started, so I’m excited to keep working hard and improving every day.”

North Carolina FC is currently a member of the United Soccer League and is on track to be part of the Major League Soccer expansion. The club was not among the four finalists to be awarded one of the first two expansion spots but NCFC is firmly in the running for the final two expansion spots which will be selected from the 10 remaining expansion markets.

Steele came through the North Carolina youth program, playing for NCFC U-23 throughout his collegiate career. The Clayton, North Carolina native played 1,162 minutes for Penn State, making 13 starts in 23 appearances in his two seasons after transferring from NC State.

Steele was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2017 and completed his degree in telecommunications as he graduated from Penn State in December of 2017.
