THE NEXT LEVEL: Student-Athlete in the Spotlight: Allen Saar
Allen is a 2016 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and current sophomore on the Coppin State University Baseball team. Allen is the son of Tim and Amy Saar and is majoring in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Medicine. He is also currently participating in research with Dr. Jamal Uddin in the nanotechnology lab on campus as they are looking to increase efficiency and/or decrease cost in the use of solar energy. Allen says that what he most enjoys about playing baseball is, “the opportunity to play the game that I have loved my whole life. A lot of players do not have the opportunity to play after high school, so I am focused on just making the most out of my college career.” Allen says that what he finds to be the most challenging part of being a collegiate student-athlete is, “staying on top of your school work. With playing at least four games a week, it can be easy to lose track of what you need to get done. Ultimately, you are at school to get an education, so it is necessary to use the little time between games, practices, lifts, and recovery time for your academics.” Coppin State had their game with Lehigh on Wednesday cancelled due to weather. On Saturday, they dropped a doubleheader to Fordham by scores of 10-8 and 4-1. Allen was held out of those games due to illness. For the season, he is batting .500 with a .613 on base percentage.

The Cougars will be at the Elizabethtown Early Bird Opener this week.
