THE NEXT LEVEL: Student-Athlete in the Spotlight: Cole Reeder
Cole is a 2016 graduate of Central Mountain High School where he played both baseball and basketball for the Wildcats. Prior to his high school days, he was a member of the Keystone Little League World Series team. Currently, he is a redshirt freshman on the Mount Saint Mary’s University (Md.) baseball team. Cole is the son of Jodi and Randy Reeder of Mill Hall. At Mount Saint Mary’s, he is majoring in sports journalism with a minor in business. Cole says that his goal is, “to change the program for the better at the Mount and we are doing that so far, but I’d like to be remembered for more than just my abilities as a player. I’d like to be remembered for my qualities as a great teammate.” Cole is listed as a 6’3” right-handed pitcher. On Thursday, he started against St. Bonaventure and tossed 3 2/3 innings, surrendering two hits but no runs while registering three strikeouts. He was on a limited pitch count in the contest. For the season, he has thrown six innings and has given up three earned runs. His ERA currently stands at 4.50. Cole says that his favorite thing about playing college baseball is, “the commitment it takes to separate yourself from others because everyone at the DI level is a good player so it’s the little things that separate you.” He concludes by acknowledging that being a collegiate student-athlete is a challenge. He says for him, “the greatest challenge is finding the energy for classes, studies and baseball.”
