Baseball

Central Mountain

Central Mountain baseball has had a strong season already and they plan to continue on with their good season. Sophomore Zane Probst has had a stellar season and has come in for the Wildcats whenever they needed him.

Probst is their relief pitcher, and has only given up seven hits in eight games while striking out 15. Probst also has three saves on the season. He has a really strong arm and mind, which helps him stay in control and play his game.

Probst started playing baseball when he was 4 years old and he loved it, so he stuck with it. He started pitching when he was 9 years old and due to his strong arm and passion for controlling the game, he stuck with it.

It is now his favorite and best position to play. Probst says, “I think my season is going very well. The team is doing very good and it’s just really fun being out there. I’m pitching really well this season so I’d say it’s going really good.”

Probst enjoys playing baseball because he gets to play with his friends and it’s an extremely fun sport to play. Since baseball is really big around our town he thinks that makes it more enjoyable and it keeps the game interesting seeing new people at the games.

He fell in love with the game whenever he first started playing and he hasn’t stopped loving the game since then. With Zane’s passion for the game, and talent, there’s no telling how far he’ll actually go with the baseball team.

Probst says his favorite pitch to throw is a fastball because he’s never had outstanding off-speed pitches and it’s just his go to pitch whenever he’s behind in the count.

He says, “It’s my favorite because I can just throw it hard and blow past people most of the time.”

Probst’s fastball has hit 87 miles per hour while pitching, which is impressive for a sophomore. Probst doesn’t have a favorite situation to pitch in. He says, “I just like to be on the mound and throwing. It’s always nice to come in with a fresh start and starting an inning on your own, but coming in with runners on is okay too. There isn’t a situation that bothers me.”

Zane doesn’t only pitch, he also plays first and hits here and there.

Due to the strong lineup and the talent on the field, they thought that Zane would be most helpful coming in for relief, and he was happy to help wherever he could.

Probst says, “I treat every game the same way. Every game I go out there and give it my all and the goal is to win. Big games are great to play in, but they are all the same and I treat them the same.”
