ALTOONA — Altoona Curve right-hander Mitch Keller has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 14-20, the league announced on Monday.

Keller went 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA over his two starts during the span and became the first Altoona pitcher to be selected for the award this season.

Ranked as the Pirates’ top prospect, Keller worked seven innings and allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in a win at PNG Field against Richmond on Tuesday. He followed with 6.2 innings and two runs allowed on five hits Sunday with another seven-strikeout performance against Portland.

The 22-year-old Cedar Rapids, Iowa native is currently ranked seventh in the Pirates minor league system with a 3.02 ERA for the season, leads the organization with 44 strikeouts and is tied for the system lead with five wins. He is also ranked tied for third in the league with 47.2 innings pitched.

Keller picked up the third “Pitcher of the Week” honor of his career. He earned the honor in the South Atlantic League in April 2016 with the West Virginia Power and against last season in May with the Bradenton Marauders.

The Curve open a three-game series against the Bowie Baysox on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Md.

Following the road trip, the Curve return to PNG Field on May 29 to start a new homestand. For tickets and more information, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or stop by the PNG Field box office.
