Keystone takes 6-1 loss to New York in Mid-Atlantic Championship
CRANSTON, RI — The Keystone 8-10 All-Stars ended up making the Mid-Atlantic Championship in the 9/10 Eastern Regional Invitational, but unfortunately for Keystone, they suffered a 6-1 defeat to New York.
In the top of the first, it was looking good for Keystone after they put a run on the board right away. Lead-off batter Darius Shade was able to get on first base after a New York error. After a fielder’s ground out by Hunter Donley, Shade would get to second base. He would then score on a Watt Probst base hit. Keystone would take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the inning — this would be their only score of the game.
In the bottom half of the first, New York would respond right away with a run of their own to tie the game up at 1-1.
The bottom of the third was even better for New York, scoring three more runs to put their lead over Keystone at 4-1. In the bottom of the fifth, they would put up two more runs for a 6-1 lead and would eventually get the victory at that score.
New York was only able to get three hits, but it was Keystone’s five total errors that would cause their defeat.
Both Austin Frank and Hunter Donley had Keystone’s only two hits of the game.
Pitching for Keystone was Shade with 2.2 innings and Walker with 2.1 innings. Two strikeouts, three hits and three walks was their statline.
The Keystone 8-10 All-Stars finished their 2018 tournament season with an 11-3 overall record — all three losses didn’t come until the 9/10 Eastern Regional Invitational, competing against all state champions.
