Suspended Clinton County Motor Speedway to resume this

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Lock Haven, PA- The Clinton County Motor Speedway will attempt to return to action after enduring four straight rain outs at the 3/8th mile oval.

Last Friday, August 10, race cars made it onto the speedway for partial warm-up periods before heavy thundershowers stopped action. Promoter Sam Ray had the track surface smooth and racy before rain hit.

Friday August 17, the track will attempt to complete the C W “Skip” Smith Memorial Race for the second time this season. Rain washed out the first attempt July 27.

Smith was a former limited late model and pro stock racer born in Williamsport, PA. Smith attended Montoursville High School, Williamsport Community College, and the Pennsylvania State Police Academy and loved people, along with wheeling and wrenching race cars. Smith won the 1987 Limited Late Model/Challenger Track Championship at Selinsgrove Speedway before moving on to campaign ARCA and NASCAR Stock Cars across the country.

Smith made seven NASCAR starts at Talladega and Daytona International Speedways in the former Busch Series. Smith started 21 events in ARCA competition.

Following his driving career Smith continued to assist his son Jason in pro stock competition. The pair won the 2006 Pro Stock Track Championship at Selinsgrove Speedway.

Smith passed away November 4, 2017 at Danville, PA after losing a year long battle with Leukemia.

Family, friends and racers join together at Clinton County Motor Speedway to honor Smith’s memory with this special event. The limited late models and pro stocks compete in Smith Memorial Races. The 270 & 600 micro sprints run their make-up summer championship races from July 27. The front wheel drive four cylinder stock cars complete the five division card. Gates open at 5 pm., with racing set for 7:30.

The nights activities are sponsored by C & E Container Corporation of Jersey Shore, PA.
